Moonshine: A Homemade Music Show
Started in November 2005, this monthly showcase of local Malaysian music began as a simple acoustic show featuring mostly acts from the singer-songwriter scene. Today Moonshine happens twice a month, a fully equipped band showcase that happens every 2nd Thursday at Laundry Bar, The Curve and an acoustic night that happens every 3rd Saturday at The Apartment Suria KLCC. Organised by local singer-songwriter Reza Salleh, its main focus was to simply bring more original Malaysian music to the ears of the public. For more info visit moonshinekl.blogspot.com

Mia Palencia (Moonshine)
Singer songwriter, jazz crooner, voice actor, public speaker and occasionally a theatre personality, Mia Palencia is a woman of many talents. She kicked off her career as the other half of well-known local jazz act Double Take at the age of 14, with whom she has released two albums. She has sung for kings, travelled the world as a public speaker and a vocalist, and, most recently, begun exploring the world of cartoons as a voice actor. Mia released her first solo single, 'Sayang' in September 2006. Her much anticipated first solo album, 'Finding My Way', was recently released in April 2008.

Paolo Delfino (Moonshine)
Lush guitar playing and soulful sounds would perfectly describe Philippines-born and Malaysia-bred, Paolo Delfino (yes, that's not his stage name, thank you very much). With a musical palette that incorporates strong melodies, acoustic textures and old-school soul mixed with pop sensibilities and a dash of retro vibes, Paolo is quickly garnering attention with his fresh sound and quirky songwriting. No self-indulgent 5 minute solos here, he's on a mission to entertain and he aims to please. More info at www.myspace.com/paolodelfino

Milli'z (Moonshine)
Formed in 2006, Milli'z is the brainchild of two ambitious songwriters - Michelle and Ling. Playing their own repertoire that revolves around the genre of alternative, pop, and folk rock acoustic music, Milli'z is set to satisfy the appetite of audiences who appreciate originality and enjoy tuning into sounds that will enchant the mind as well as provoke the soul. They’ve made appearances at the Bedroom Series in No Black Tie, KL Sing Song 2007, the Attic KL Singer-songwriters Showcase, Moonshine, Acoustic Jam and others. More info at myspace.com/millizland

Yuna (Moonshine)
A 22 year old law student at UITM, Yuna started singing at 6, learned how to play the piano at 7 and started writing songs at 19, the same age she picked up a guitar.
At the moment she's one of the most buzzed about singer-songwriter in the circuit, armed with spellbinding songs, down-to-earth lyrics and a sweet, innocent voice. Very much a child of the 90s, she's influenced by the likes of The Cardigans, No Doubt, Garbage, Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Silverchair and most recently Feist. Appearances around the circuit include sets at popular live music venue No Black Tie, Moonshine and Layar Tanchap. Not to be missed. More info at myspace.com/yunaroomrecords

Troubadours
Responsible for organizing some of the liveliest open mics in town, Troubadours is a three man singer-songwriter team consisting of Seihon, Azmy Yunor and Jerome Kuga. They’re also responsible for KL Sing Song, the only annual singer-songwriter festival in these parts which will be happening next July. More info at troubadourskl.blogspot.com

Azmyl Yunor (Troubadours)
No other wild-haired journeyman has been busy as fellow Troubadour and KL Sing Song organizer Azmyl Yunor. His witty onstage banter, busker instincts and gung-ho let's do it! attitude complements the down home music he makes and colors the weary characters that populate his songs. If you like your Bob Dylan with some sambal or your Johnny Cash with tempoyak he's your man.

Jerome Kugan (Troubadours)
JK is a writer and musician based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In April 2008, he released his electro-acoustic debut album "Songs For A Shadow" that features 11 original tracks produced by Hardesh Singh and Ariff Akhir. He also writes poetry, with some of his poems soon to be published in the Asia Literary Review in Hong Kong. JK also works as co-organiser of Wayang Kata, KL Sing Song, Troubadours, was sub-editor of KLue and Junk magazines, and now works as the PR guy for Central Market Annexe.

Seihon (Troubadours)
Seihon is a singersongwriter who writes and sings about broken hearts and wasted lives lost in the city. Bitting sarcasm and in-your-face lyrics on a variety of topics, Seihon is actually an optimist hiding under a skin of existential angst and hopelessness. He’s also one of the organisers for annual singer-songwriter festival KL Sing Song and makes up one third of Troubadours.

Izzy (Troubadours)
Izzy started singing R&B with her cousins when she was young and eventually moved on to playing guitar and singing by the time she was 17. Like most young musicians she grew bored of singing and playing other people's songs and started writing her own tales of love and life. She's played at almost every acoustic show in town including Doppelganger, Moonshine, No Black Tie Unplugged and the Songwriters' Round. She's got an EP out and it features an ultra sweet and sing-a-long-able track called 'Pelangi'.

Edwin & Albert (Troubadours)
“We’re not a duo, not a band, not a group…we’re cousins!” says Edwin, one half of, well, Edwin & Albert. They both have different taste for soft drinks and the brand of hair gel they use but they both share a love for The Beatles. Members of the same church, they’ve been performing on and off since 2005 and write mostly happy, catchy uplifting songs that smell of rainbows and morning dew. Music has always been a way of finding beauty and happiness in the midst of their chaotic lives and playing music and writing songs helps them to do just that.

KokoKaina (JUNK Voter's Choice!)
KokoKaina is a singer for the new millennium. Discovered on YouTube by none other than Patrick Keeler, drummer for The Raconteurs and subsequently signed to Brushfire Records (home to Jack Johnson, Matt Costa and Rogue Wave), this is one girl who is set to be big. What’s ironic is despite the modern technologies that aided her discovery, the petite singer is an old soul. With a voice that is a throwback to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, KokoKaina creates wonderful and bittersweet songs that will wow you over with its warmth and emotion.

Otam (JUNK Voter's Choice!)
Otam is part of a new wave of singer-songwriters that has injected a breath of fresh air into the local music scene. He started writing songs in his diary, and seriously into music when he was in Canada and met some people busking by the street. Now that Otam is back in Malaysia, he is excited to be part of the local music community, and looks forward to sharing his music to everyone and anyone interested.
